TORTURE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM By Les Dove

Before my repression inside the United Kingdom I lived in South Africa and Rhodesia for almost ten years. Whilst living in those countries I voiced my opposition to apartheid. Therefore I can only assume that my subsequent repression and torture at the hands of the South African Bureau of State Security (BOSS) and the British Military Intelligence Services (MI5 and MI6) in the UK was due to that political stance.

Agents from the British intelligence services were amongst the passengers on the aircraft that returned me to Europe. They began their persecution of me when they verbally began to try and denigrate me during the flight home. That was in 1979. In the United Kingdom I was harassed, intimidated, smeared, persecuted and tortured by MI5 on a daily basis for the following twenty years. High-tech psychotronic devices and other methods were used consistently against me for twenty four hours a day. There were also many attempts upon my life. Finally I could take no more and so came to the United States.

However, whilst I was in Britain I formed the National Association of Writers and attempted to expose the repression and torture of other writers and artists who were also suffering under governments of both the political left and right.

I personally was repressed under the governments of James Callahan, Margaret Thatcher, John Major and Tony Blair. Whilst in Britain I wrote The Torture Report, Psychological Torture in the United Kingdom and numerous articles which detailed the abuses committed by the British security services MI5 and MI6. I also posted copies of these reports over the Internet and distributed them to other International human rights organizations. Copies of the Torture Report and Psychological Torture in the UK were sent to all the aforementioned British governments and also to a wide section of the British media. Other copies of the reports were sent to human rights organizations within Britain including Amnesty International and Redress.

I also frequently complained to the Interception of Communications Tribunal about my phone line being tapped and otherwise interfered with by MI5. But no action whatsoever was taken by any of these organizations - even after five other writers and therapists had gone on national television where they also complained of harassment, persecution and torture by the British security services. These additional exposures of a security service totally out of control were also ignored. Just as my own complaints had been. Indeed, it was all too apparent that the British media was engaged in a conspiracy of silence. A silence that instantly surrounded anyone who dared to complain about the British security services or any abuses of power committed by them, no matter how grave the allegations. Indeed, it was apparent to anyone with half a mind that the British Security services were answerable to nobody but themselves. A fact which they later admitted to during an interview with the Irish Times.

Personally I have no doubts whatsoever that widespread persecution and repression, including the torture and murder of dissidents, has been taking place within Britain over a great many years. Certainly far longer than the twenty years I suffered there. And that the torture cases now finally being exposed to public view - mainly over the Internet, are but the tip of a very large iceberg. These vicious crimes against humanity have continued due to the complicity of the royal establishment, their security services, and the various puppet governments they have controlled. Added to which is an obviously biased and very tame state media. Which in my opinion does no more than represent a continuous charade whose main function is to fool the British people into believing they live in a democracy. And indeed, due to the restrictions imposed by Britain's severe censorship law's, information that would prove otherwise is hard to come by. The mere mention of repression and torture in the UK brings a look of sheer incredulity to the faces of many ordinary people.

Having been brainwashed since birth into believing they live in a democracy most British people actually believe they do. They simply have no idea at all of what true democracy and a free press really means. Consequently most British people don't even know what is happening inside their own country. Whatever, Internet sites which reveal even more cases of psychotronic torture in the United Kingdom are appearing all over the world. These latest horrific disclosures closely resemble my own repression within Britain.

Like other victims I now intend to gather further information on torture in the UK with a view of taking the British government to court in an attempt to gain redress and compensation for all the victims of repression within that country. The relatively free flow of information allowed by the Internet has fortunately resulted in a worldwide database of torture victims from around the world. I shall also form a database of my own with particular reference to British torture victims.

Eventually enough evidence will hopefully allow representation by International human rights lawyers who might bring about the justice torture British victims have long been denied. THE BRITISH CHARADE

During the last few years writers, therapists and other people in the United Kingdom have gone on national television to protest at their relentless persecution and torture by the British internal security service MI5. Countless articles and Internet exposures by other British citizens, some of whom have been exiled, have added further details of repression and torture within Britain.

The response from Britain's so-called free press has been as expected. Total silence. The "state" media there has, as usual, colluded with the British government in a conspiracy of silence. Why? Because they know - and so does the International Association of Writers, that those tortured British writers and therapists are but the "tip of a very large iceberg". The Blair government, as was Thatcher's and Major’s before his, is simply too afraid to openly discuss the widespread abuse of human rights in Britain. Should it do so the horrific extent of these crimes against humanity would become known worldwide. And the British claim of "democracy" would be highlighted as the charade we know it to be.

Anyone living in Britain who dares to expose the horrors of the British police state can expect the kind of immediate retaliation that is evident in all police states. Their telephones will be tapped twenty four hours a day, their fax and e-mail messages will be intercepted and copied, their Internet connection will be constantly interfered with and their homes will be bombarded with microwaves that may disable and quite possibly kill them.

But that will be only a foretaste of what is to come.

Dissidents will in all probability loose their jobs. If they are self-employed they will very quickly find that their customer base rapidly declines. Business "problems" will erupt and increase at every turn. Friends once considered "the best of" might suddenly turn against them as MI5’s smear machine goes into full gear. This "character assassination" by MI5’s psychological warfare department will apply not only to the dissident but also to their families. No one is spared.

But that is only the beginning of MI5’s action against dissidents.

Daily provocation by MI5 stooges will become the norm. These government parasites will follow their dissident "target" wherever it goes. At every opportunity they will insult and disparage him (or her) and also try to make the general public do the same. These actions will be taken against the dissident every single time he leaves his or her home. This is an essential part of MI5’s plan to drive the dissident into internal exile. For MI5’s intent is to turn the target’s home into a prison. After which MI5 can further secretly increase their repression of the target, actions which slowly but surely may well lead to the targets complete mental breakdown or even suicide.

However, should MI5’s target be psychologically strong enough to resist the latter measures MI5 stooges will then physically provoke the dissident by having a succession of their "hard men" attack him directly. This will cause the dissident to become known as "a trouble maker" which will in turn cause real troublemakers to seek the dissident out, just as MI5 desires them to do. The latter action then results in the "criminalisation" of the dissident. After which some trumped-up charge will quickly put him or her into prison. Once there the dissident will by one means or another be "taken out". Should these actions all fail MI5’s "accident team" comes into play. Cars have accidents all the time and if a dissidents steering wheel should suddenly come off whilst they are on a motorway, or if some other "unfortunate accident" should just happen to the dissident who is to say that it wasn’t just that. MI5 are very good at making these so-called "accidents" happen.

In efforts to forestall any countermeasures against their tyranny and repression MI5 have in effect now all but "wired" the entire country. Under the guise of "protecting the population" thousands upon thousands of secret video cameras have been installed in every town and city. Even on private housing estates. And that includes hidden cameras inside houses too. Which are often secretly placed in television sets.

Hotels, Pubs and bars throughout Britain have also been directly "wired" to local police stations - and beyond, for many years now. Video cameras and sound bugs can record every conversation, by any "potential" dissident. Whether British or not. They can of course also record supposedly private "business conversations".

MI5 has long been into the business of industrial espionage. They have a department devoted entirely to that. But it isn’t there to protect anyone but themselves and their masters – the British royal family. This bugging is referred to as "the interception of communications" as the British delicately call wiretapping. And a new law in Britain allows anyone to be sentenced to five years in prison just for openly complaining about it – to anyone. American businesses in Britain are also now more than concerned then ever before. For yet another new repressive law requires anyone doing business in Britain to install police interception equipment in their offices. This will allow the British secret police to openly view supposedly confidential business documents. To add insult to injury, American business owners in Britain will be forced to pay to have this snooping equipment installed - which has been estimated to cost from between $150.000.00 a year to almost one million dollars a year per business.

Simon Davis who is a fellow of the London School of Economics recently visited the United States. He advised American Businessmen to "think twice about doing business in Britain". He also told them to "make a very careful note of where their business data was flowing". He further stated that "if any of their data was being processed in Britain, an alarm bell should ring". This concern was echoed by the American Ziff Davis Smart Business magazine who published a very interesting article on the subject. I would like to add to the above by saying "you don’t know the half of it!"

In trying to prevent the whole of the British population from gaining knowledge of these abuses of human rights MI5 has instituted the kind of censorship which may today be worse than any other known police state. Not only is the British internal telephone system comprehensively tapped, but so is their international mail and phone services. Indeed, the large scale censoring of communications both in and out of Britain is not only the norm but it has been so for at least twenty years.

The British secret police do not, however, persecute British citizens simply within Britain – they persecute and try to repress them outside of the country too. The overseas arm of MI5, which is MI6, operates from within every British embassy abroad, and through using their local fascist contacts they continue to harass and persecute any dissident British citizen who may settle within their area of operations. Money appears to be no object in the pursuance of MI6’s repressive techniques. Writers and human rights activists who appear intent on exposing the oppressive British police state are sometimes followed all over the world by MI6 agents. During which, smear campaigns by them are instituted and used against dissidents at every opportunity.

British ex-patriots living abroad are also often extensively used by MI6. These people – some of whom have not lived in Britain for many years, are often very easily fooled by MI6 agents into believing that a target dissident living in exile still remains "a threat" to what MI6 terms "British democracy". They too are then conned into supporting the present British police state and all that goes with it. However, so many people are now connected to the Internet that fooling all the people all the time is no longer possible. Certainly it is not in any country with a decent communications system. So it does seem reasonable to assume that one-day true democracy will be returned to the British people. And that those who are guilty of bringing about the present repression and tyranny there will be brought before an International court of law to answer for their crimes.
